Just came back from my first ever black bear hunt, and all can say is wow, what a trip. Although I failed at putting down a big bruin with my bow, the trip exceeded my expectations. It was exciting, relaxing, exhilerationg and nerve racking all at once.
I stayed at Big Paw Outfitters, with Kevin Caissie, in Renous, New Brunswick. Everything was really top notch. The accomodations, the food, the guides and cook, and yes the hunting, were all more than I expected. Five hunters out of eight, put down bears, and everyone had a shot at one. My shot was on Friday afternoon, the last day. Unfortunately I hit the bear too far back, and was not able to recover the animal. I am still sick about the missed opportunity, but it is part of hunting, and the entire trip was truly a experience I'll never forget.
